Elm Hill Goes Bowling!

Kindergarten and First Grade students at Elm Hill School enjoyed a day of bowling at Maple Lanes in Claremont.

Sometimes you just gotta change things up a little!  A BIG Thank You to Springfield Schools PTA and Springfield Area Booster Club for making this happen!!

Learning About Force and Motion

Mr. Corey from VINS visited Miss Reilly's class recently, and spoke to students about the concepts of "force and motion!"

They read the book Oscar and Cricket: A Book About Rolling and Moving by Geoff Waring.

Then they used different levels of force to push tree cookies to different lengths and they talked about which lengths needed more or less force. Thanks, Mr. Corey for such a fun and informative learning experience!

Family Game Night

Join us March 12 for a fun-filled Game Night with stories, games, crafts, and activities for the whole family. We are excited to welcome guest author Erin Rounds, who will have copies of Where's Winter? available.

Her book Charlotte's Bones can be purchased through local bookstores or Amazon.  Families are encouraged to bring a copy if they would like to get it autographed.

All-4-One will be lending their oversized games for even more interactive fun.

Hope to see everyone there for an evening of fun and games! Light refreshments will be served.

Learning about winter wildlife

Laurie from VINS came in and taught us about backyard birds in winter.

Students enjoyed a variety of games and visuals — including “beat the squirrel” and some math/counting games using bird seed, bird feathers and bird puppets.

Afterwards, everyone enjoyed puppet show. Winter may be long in Vermont, but there’s plenty to do and see and enjoy!  Thank you Laurie for coming to visit us!

What do you do when the weather turns cold and snowy?

Mrs. Whaley's class knows the answer!

Students read about Snowflake Bentley, then went out to catch and study their own snowflakes!

And for those of you who’ve never heard the story, Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley was an American photographer from Jericho, Vermont, who was known for being the first person to photograph snowflakes in detail.

He captured over 5,000 images of snow crystals and famously stated that no two snowflakes are alike!

Art and Writing go hand-in-hand! Especially at Elm Hill School!

🎨 + ✍️ = Magic at Elm Hill!

Inspired by our students' love for making their own books and cards, we have launched a writing center in the Elm Hill art room!

Miss Emily (Reading Interventionist) and Ms. Farrell (Art Teacher) have teamed up to provide a cross-disciplinary collaboration between art and literacy.

Miss Emily is currently visiting the first grade art classes in order to directly support students in their writing adventures. Stay tuned for more art-literacy projects coming soon! ✨
